Picking The Perfect Coffee Table

7 Tips to Find Just the Right Coffee Table

The coffee table has become that one crucial piece of furniture that sets the tone in the living room or family room.  Picking just the right one may be challenging because their are so many unique options – brass, stainless steel, oval, round, wood or maybe something more multifunctional.  The choices are endles but here are 7 Tips to Picking the Right Coffee Table For The Home..

1.) Traffic Flow.  A coffee table needs to allow enough space for movement around the larger furniture pieces in the living space.   It should be close enough to reach or put a magazine down.  We suggest leaving at least 2 feet or more of space all the way around.

2.) Height.  Sit down on the sofa and chairs and see what is comfortable for placement of items.  The right coffee table should be a couple inches lower than the seating give or take.  Standard height is typically around 16 to 18 inches but for entertaining a taller table of 20 or 21 inches may be best.

3.) Style. Opposite styles attract when selecting the perfect coffee table.  A heavier wood or base table may be best with a long narrow sofa.  An oversized plush couch would call for a more sleek glass style coffee table with metal base.

4.) Multifunctional.  The family room is a place for gatherings and choosing the right coffee table may involve everyones opinion.  Select one that has multiple uses.  One with sharp edges may not be ideal for small children.  Gathering to watch a movie or playing board games would indicate a need for a coffee table with shelving underneath or storage.

5.) Less Mess.  Glass tables are easy to clean and no worries about leaving drinks on it – its practically stain free!  The colors of a stylish rug or animal skin rug with show thrugh and not be covered up.  Get really chic with an acrylic or lucite style.

6.) Go Bold.  For an instant pop of color in a living room, choose a lacquered coffee table in a bold hue like bright green or tangerine.  Add decorative pillows and a few room accents in similar tones and instantly neutral sofas and chairs are brought to life!

7.) Details.  Whether from a catalog or a DIY project find from the local thrift store, a coffee table with unique detailing is a special piece.  It can be whitewashed, rustic metal, stone or have wood cutouts.  Such a statement piece calls for other furnishings in a living space to be more low key.  Every piece in a room shouldn’t be screaming for attention.

Be sure the perfect coffee table not only offers functioniality but reflects personal style and helps bring a living space together.
