Create a "Pillowscape"

Decorating and Staging with Pillows – Pick the Right Ones!
Here are 6 Tips on Picking Perfect Pillows when decorating or staging your home. Also, check out Virtually Staging Properties List of Favorite Stores to create your “pillowscape”!
1.) Consider size – Standard pillows are 18 inches typically and rest nicely on sofas. Go for oversize pillows (24 inches) to create a casual feel. A modern sofa with a low back calls for a slightly smaller, 16″ pillow.
2.) Check the fill– For more squishy feeling pillows then feather and down fill is ideal but can be pricy. Foam and synthetic fills are stiff and hold their shape better and are less expensive.
3.) Create a pillow sanctuary– A great pair of matching solid color pillows that contrast with your sofa color is a good start when decorating a living room. Put one long pillow in the center of the couch and maybe 2 others with a pattern or odd shape to them to add interest. You have created the perfect “pillowscape”!
4.) Odd number is artful – The odd numbers and unique is artful. Try one, three or five pillows in a living room. Place one on the chair, three or five for a standard 88 inch sofa. Get creative and have fun decorating!
5.) Texture is in – Create some contrast and bring in texture. A ruffled pillow against a smooth leather or silk couch for example. Sparkly or even shiny pillows for a fuzzy couch add warmth to attract buyers attention especially when staging a living space.
6.) Polish the look – Create a collection of pillows in a living room. Pillows on a chair don’t have to match the ones on the sofa. They all need to relate somehow by color or style to create a unified and polished room like the one in the staged living room picture above!
So where are the best places to find fabulous pillows when decorating or staging your home? We suggest Target or Walmart for staging your home on a budget, West Elm for a contemporary feel, Anthropologie for unique looks and our staff favorite, ZGallerie for texture, current decorating styles and colors!

What Our Clients Say
“The unfurnished townhome we had listed had been on the market for 4 months until we decided to engage in virtual staging. I had the townhome professionally photographed and then had the photos virtually staged and they were so realistic. We had a binding contract within 2 weeks after posting the virtual photos!”
ERIC BROOKS, Realtor | Wydler Brooks Real Estate – Virginia
“Love the photos! I will be your most devoted client! Thank You!!!”

SHEILA SALVITTI, Agent | Coldwell Banker Premier Properties – Pennsylvania
“Our vacant property was listed for sale with no offers for over 90 days and after virtual staging of the photos took place, we instantly saw an increase in buyer traffic and got an offer in less than 4 weeks. The buyers liked the photos which helped them with decorating ideas for the home.”
JEANNIE THOMPSON, Agent | Long & Foster – Virginia
“I only post virtually staged photos by VSP for my vacant listings and it is an excellent service instead of having blank rooms for buyers to view online.”
