Stay up to Date with 7 Trends that are “In” – and 3 that are “Out”

According to Trulia and top designers, 2017 promises to be a year of boundary-pushing for interior design. Take a look at the 7 trends that are “in” for 2017, and the three that are on the way “out”.

7 Trends that are In

Matte Finish Appliances: Matte finish appliances are quickly becoming the new favorite for kitchen designers. Unlike glossy finishes, matte finish appliances blend into kitchen design adding depth and reducing distractions. Who wouldn’t love for their stove or dishwasher to seamlessly blend into their overall look?

Marble: Marble is surging as a popular trend that is no longer confined to the bathroom. Marble, and marble patterns, are popular for counter tops, furniture, even fabric! Paired with metal or wood, marble can look modern and trendy.

Cerused Wood: Cerused refers to a type of finish that brings out the uniqueness of the wood grain. What was once primarily popular in high-end decor is now universally available – and popular. Cerused wood is currently a popular choice for chairs, tables, and storage furniture.

Jewel Tones: Beige and gray as a wall color favorite is being replaced by jewel tones like emerald or amethyst. Benjamin Moore even listed a deep amethyst-meets-gray color named “shadow” their color of the year for 2017.

Nailhead Accents: Nailhead accents on furniture is moving far beyond upholstered items. This detail is now being used on credenzas, chests, lighting fixtures, and more. Some creative designs feature geometric shapes and unusual placement.

Subway Tiles: Subway tile has been used for many years, and is continuing to define itself as one of the staple style elements of this generation. Not only is it affordable, it comes in a variety of styles and colors, and works well in most spaces.

Smart Features: Staying on-trend with today’s increasingly educated world, smart home features are now easier than ever. Charging docks, home security, even smart furniture is emerging as one of the most popular trends in home design.

3 Trends that are Out

Strictly Antique: Designing an entire room or home around a certain period is out, according to designers. Using a specific period for inspiration in your home design is great, but it is recommended that you mix decor and pieces from different periods to add a creative, aesthetically pleasing intrigue to your home.

Oversized Furniture: Yes, oversized furniture is out! While that overstuffed sofa is comfortable, it can overwhelm your entire room, and often is an inefficient use of your space. More modest furniture, or furniture that is dual-purpose, is the solution to the problem of overstuffed furniture, and can lend a modern look to your space.

Brushed Metal: Brushed metal and industrial-styled accents are on the way out in 2017. Warm metal tones like gold, bronze, and brass are rapidly becoming more popular. Warmer hues offer elegance and warmth to your space when paired with the right colors and textures.

“My vacant property listing sat for about 3 weeks on the market and after posting the virtual photos by Virtually Staging Properties, I saw a 50% increase in buyer traffic and we got an offer just 1 day later.  The buyer’s agent thought virtual staging was a great idea and was going to consider using it for their vacant listings.”

“The unfurnished townhome we had listed had been on the market for 4 months until we decided to engage in virtual staging.  I had the townhome professionally photographed and then had the photos virtually staged and they were so realistic.  We had a binding contract within 2 weeks after posting the virtual photos!”
