Staging a Small Space? Try These 7 Seating Layout Tips
If you are staging a home with a small family room or den, you may have some trouble deciding on the right furniture and decor to maximize the space. To get the most out of a small space, and your time and budget, try these 7 seating layout tips.
Go Sectional – Sectional sofas come in many sizes and styles, and often are a much better fit for a smaller space. Sectionals offer the ability to customize the layout of furniture easily.
Sleeper Chic – Instead of getting a traditional furniture set, opt for a small sofa bed and pair it with an accent chair. Not only does this make good use of your small space, but it also adds functionality to the room.
Nice Niche – Many homes have little niches or small awkward areas that present challenges for designers. For larger niches or open room dividers, create inviting daybeds. For smaller spaces, create individual seating or pet bedding.
Bring it In – For small spaces with a bar or counter area, choose stools or seating that fits under the bar space to maximize floor area and prevent tripping hazards.
Light it Up – Natural light can make any size room look bigger and more inviting. Upgrade window treatments to wooden blinds or shear drapes to let the light in.
Cozy Corners – For small or awkward corners of the room, choose large accent chairs to offset furniture in the more open areas of the room.
Recess – If possible, add recessed shelving or storage nooks to small rooms. This allows you to maximize space and display tchotchkes without sacrificing floor space.
