Man Cave Design Ideas for Father's Day

Father’s day is just around the corner, and is the perfect time to think about giving the man in your life the special space he deserves. A man cave does not necessarily have to be a stereotypical space with a football motif, leather recliner, and neon signage. Now, man caves can be as creative as any other part of your home. Need some ideas for your man cave project? Check out our picks for the best ideas while under construction, or as an addition to a completed home.

Man Cave Ideas While Under Construction

If your home is still under construction, you have a wide variety of options for creating the perfect man cave. Check out our favorite ideas:

  • Add an extra bay to your garage, or build a separate room onto the garage with a separate entrance.
  • Build a pool house with separate family space and man cave space. Install sliding doors on the front so your man can have his space, but be close to entertainment, patio and grill space, and family activities.
  • A newer trend in man caves is detached studios. A detached studio can serve a dual purpose as a man cave, but also could be used for overnight guests. Many studios now are designed with kitchenettes, bathrooms, and sleeping areas.

Man Cave Ideas for Finished Homes

If your home is finished and you don’t want to make structural changes, you may be limited to an extra bedroom, or space in the basement. Don’t let this restriction deter you – there are plenty of ideas for making any space man cave worthy.  Consider our favorite ideas:

  • One popular trend in man caves is transforming a large outdoor storage building or playhouse into a functional space for a grownup getaway. Many of these buildings can be finished to be weather proof and temperature controlled.
  • Amp up a room or basement space by adding darkened curtains, surround sound, stereo equipment, theater seating, gaming systems, or extra televisions.
  • Add a mini fridge or hide-away wet bar, wine cooler, keg beer dispenser, or vending machine.
  • If you have a large home or extra empty space, consider adding gym equipment, a sauna, virtual driving range, putting green, or private bathroom with a urinal.
  • If your man smokes, include the necessary items like ashtrays, lighters, and proper ventilation.

No matter what your budget and space restrictions are (or aren’t), you can surprise your man with a creative, “no-judgment” space that is all his own. Don’t worry about the man cave matching the tone and style of the rest of the home – what matters is that the space reflects your man’s interests, style, and personality.

What Our Clients Say

“I only post virtually staged photos by VSP for my vacant listings and it is an excellent service instead of having blank rooms for buyers to view online.”

MARTHA MAY, Realtor | Koenig & Strey – Illinois

“We list all our vacant properties with virtually staged photos by VSP and we always get a contract within the first 2 -4 weeks after posting the listing along with the photos online.  Other agents comment on our virtual photos and we have referred numerous agents to you all because of the success we have had with your company! “

CYNDI OHRT, Realtor | Keller Williams Realty – Virginia

“My vacant property listing sat for about 3 weeks on the market and after posting the virtual photos by Virtually Staging Properties, I saw a 50% increase in buyer traffic and we got an offer just 1 day later.  The buyer’s agent thought virtual staging was a great idea and was going to consider using it for their vacant listings.”

TARIQ THOMAS, Agent | Thomas Holding Group – Pennsylvania

“Our vacant property was listed for sale with no offers for over 90 days and after virtual staging of the photos took place, we instantly saw an increase in buyer traffic and got an offer in less than 4 weeks.  The buyers liked the photos which helped them with decorating ideas for the home.”

JEANNIE THOMPSON, Agent | Long & Foster – Virginia

“We received 2 offers in less than a week and a half.  The property was listed with vacant photos for over 220 days on the market with no offers.  Many buyers passed on the house but after posting the virtual photos, they changed their minds and we definitely saw an increase in buyer traffic!”
