Get Your Measurements Right!
Remember These Standard Measurements when Decorating or Staging Your Home!
Working on a home decorating or home staging project? Doing some updates to prepare your home for sale? Make sure to get your standard measurements right. Here are 6 Helpful Tips when Decorating or Staging Your Home by Numbers.
1.) What size overhead fixture is suitable when decorating a room? Just simply add the length and width of a room in feet and then break it down into inches to calculate your fixture’s diameter. For example, a 15 by 20 foot room would require a 35 inch wide chandelier.
2.) How much paint do I need for a space? One gallon of paint covers approximately 400 square feet of wall space.
3.) How high should I hang a light fixture? A chandelier or light fixture should hang about 36″ above a dining table.
4.) How much fabric will cover a standard size couch? You’ll need approximately 14 yards of neutral shade fabric about 54 inches wide to cover a standard 84 inch sofa with legs and tight backing. Add 2 more yards for a skirt.
5.) What is visually pleasing when hanging curtains? Curtains should be 2 1/2 to 3 times the width of a window. Purchase a rod thats approximatley 20″ wider than your window so the result is 10 inches on either side. This is an easy home decorating trick to make your window appear much larger than it is. If your concerned about adding height to a room then mount your rod and curtains as high as possible and break about 1 1/2″ on the floor.
6.) I installed a light fixture. Where should my lightswitch be placed? Your light switches should be about 36″ above the floor and about 1 1/2″ to 2″ away from the side of door trim.

“Your virtual staging product is sensational! The efficiency condo I had listed was in a community of 60+ units for sale and had no offers. After posting the 3 virtually staged photos of my unit, I got an offer within 5 days and beat out all the competing units listed in the same price range. Thanks for a great job!”
