The Power of Color When Home Staging

Add Color to Your Home When Decorating or Staging Your Living Spaces!

Did you know color has psychological powers?  It can make a room appear larger or smaller, cozy, energetic or casual or even more formal.  Here are 6 Tips To Bring Color Into Your Living Spaces to make your home comfortable along with staging tips when planning to sell your home!

1.) Color is Fun. Be careful not to overdo it with bad color combinations.  An avacado green or pale peach looks pleasing with off white trim.  Try baby pink or Tiffany blue with a rich chocolate brown to acheive a mature, sophisticated look.  STAGING TIP: Go neutral with paint colors and add color through decorative pieces when virtual or traditionally staging a home.

2.) Higher Ceilings. Painting ceilings a pale pink or creamy white creates the illusion of higher ceilings in a room.  A high gloss laquer finish also adds ceiling height.

3.) Chalky White. White walls are clean in a matte finish.  Add yellow or lavender  in the mix for depth and sophistication.  STAGING TIP: White also says contemporary and works well for loft style or small condominiums.

4.) Warm Tones. Remember to use neutral tones when staging but reds and yellows are actually warm tones that are inviting.  Peach, brick and ochre colors are also warm but are best when decorating your home to make living spaces more liveable.

5.) Paint Test. Test out some bedsheets and pillows in the color that you are thinking about painting a room.  Live with them for a while just to be sure this is the right paint color – you may change your mind. You can purchase towels in the shade your thinking about painting a bathroom – test before you try!  Home Staging Tip: White, cream or khaki towels in a bathroom create a spa/hotel like appearance which is best for staging a home.

6.) Small vs. Large. Small rooms should have all 4 walls painted the same color and keep it light.  Larger rooms can get away with different colors but stick to the same color family.

We recommend these paint colors for staging a home: Benjamin Moore Antique White, Wickham Grey, Rice Paddy or Sherwan Williams Ground Ginger.

Hot new paint colors for decorating your home: Olympic Paints – Aqua Chippon, Dutch Boy Cathedral Gray, Pittsburg Paints Forsythia Blossom and Behr Maple Graze*.

What Our Clients Say

“We received 2 offers in less than a week and a half.  The property was listed with vacant photos for over 220 days on the market with no offers.  Many buyers passed on the house but after posting the virtual photos, they changed their minds and we definitely saw an increase in buyer traffic!”

TRISH BRADLEY, Agent | Rutledge Properties – Massachusettes

“Our vacant property was listed for sale with no offers for over 90 days and after virtual staging of the photos took place, we instantly saw an increase in buyer traffic and got an offer in less than 4 weeks.  The buyers liked the photos which helped them with decorating ideas for the home.”

JEANNIE THOMPSON, Agent | Long & Foster – Virginia

“I only post virtually staged photos by VSP for my vacant listings and it is an excellent service instead of having blank rooms for buyers to view online.”

MARTHA MAY, Realtor | Koenig & Strey – Illinois

“The unfurnished townhome we had listed had been on the market for 4 months until we decided to engage in virtual staging.  I had the townhome professionally photographed and then had the photos virtually staged and they were so realistic.  We had a binding contract within 2 weeks after posting the virtual photos!”

ERIC BROOKS, Realtor | Wydler Brooks Real Estate – Virginia

“I was thrilled with our virtual photos cause we got an offer just 5 days after posting the photos online!”
